The Staff Advisory Committee to the Dean is beginning to plan for the spring College-wide meeting with the Dean scheduled for Monday, April 28 in 101 ASI Building. Refreshments will be available at 9:30 in the lobby of ASI before the actual meeting begins at 10 a.m. The honorees of the Staff Laureate Awards will be recognized at this meeting with the presentation of their awards. Please look for information to be forthcoming on the call for nominations and other details concerning these awards. The Staff Laureate awards were developed to recognize outstanding staff within the College of Agricultural Sciences. All staff (standing appointment, fixed-term, technical service, and wage payroll) in the College are eligible for these awards. If you know someone who you feel is deserving of one of these awards, please consider nominating him/her.
The SACD has also been looking for opportunities to work cooperatively with the Faculty Advisory Committee in the College. Thus far, the committee has been able to collaborate with the Faculty Advisory Committee in developing a list of suggestions and concerns associated with the East subcampus construction project. These suggestions/concerns will be forwarded to the appropriate people. It is the hope of SACD that there will be other opportunities for future collaboration with the Faculty Advisory Committee.
In response to staff concerns raised post 9-11, the Safety subcommittee of the SACD is working in collaboration with other university personnel on a potential pilot program for the emergency evacuation of buildings. Look for more information concerning safety in the near future.
Dean Steele also attended the January SACD meeting. In addition to holding discussions about recent staff concerns and committee efforts, Dr. Steele provided the committee with an update that included the appointment of Dennis Wolff as the new Secretary of Agriculture. Wolff is a dairy farmer and Penn State trustee, which should be very positive for Penn State and the College.
The SACD always welcomes your input. If you have issues or questions that you would like the committee to address, please contact your unit representative or any committee member. You can also contact the committee anonymously via the suggestion box on the Contact Us page.
